I have uploaded the new version of the add-on but the tools do not show up at all. Tried several times. Have restarted and refreshed, etc...

Summary of what I have:

Blank Canvas Gmail Sig 1.12.04

Firefox version: 3.6
Regular Gmail, Gmail version: gmail_fe_642_p16

Labs I am using: Multiple inboxes, pictures in chat, muzzle, canned responses, forgotten attachment reminder, custom label colors, undo send, send & archive, google docs gadget, google calendar gadget ( I did try to disable multiple inboxes and reload already)

I do have multiple send-as addresses.

Other Addons: Better Gmail 2 0.9.8 (only for the purpose of Folders4Gmail), evernote web clipper, gmail manager

Thoughts?

Wow, that's a lot of lab features. All I can suggest is to disable them all and see if options show up, then re-enable them one by one until they don't work any more so you know which one conflicts. Unfortunately, I don't have time to do this myself, but if you find out what the conflict is, let me know, and I'll do my best to implement a fix.

So I disabled all the labs...and the other add-ons...and still get nothing :).

Have you tried enabling javascript error alerts as described in the instructions for posting bugs?
Feb. 18, 2010 - 2:27pm - 200 days ago

I do have the JavaScripts alerts selected.  Tried again with new version...disabled all labs...and still nothing.

Have you tried disabling better gmail? Folders for Gmail would definitely screw it up.

Have you read the stickies in the bug reports forum? Do you have a script blocker installed?

I have disabled gmail manager and better gmail 2.  I have all labs disabled. I have no script blockers installed.  Cannot find anything else in the bug reports that sounds applicable.  Anything in the firefox tools I should check?  Really strange...I get no errors but still does not show up.

Sadly I'm completely stumped. Have you tried getting it to work on another computer?

Feb. 18, 2010 - 3:21pm - 200 days ago

Nope.  But I will do that later tonight and let you know!

I am having this problem also.  The only way I have been able to get the signature icons back is to delete BC signature and reinstall.  They come back for a while then disappear again.

Feb. 26, 2010 - 4:33am - 192 days ago

I am still having this problem but found that I could get the buttons back by disabling and then enabling the BC signature add-on.  Are others continuing to have this problem?

Feb. 26, 2010 - 8:32am - 192 days ago

I'm not getting any more reports of problems at the moment.

I have heard other people say that things came back after disabling then re-enabling the add-on.

Feb. 27, 2010 - 3:06am - 191 days ago

I'm having this problem as well.

Wendy's suggestion of disabling-reboot-enabling your extension does work though.  I'll keep an eye on the javascript console to see if there is some trigger when it stops working again (as it will, eventually).

Feb. 28, 2010 - 9:40am - 190 days ago

Nope, I'm having this same problem in one of my email accounts.  I've done everything suggested here: uninstalled and reinstalled the BlankCanvas add-on (several times); I do not (and never had) any Labs running; permitted googleapis.com in my NoScript; set the Javascript Debug option; tried it on different computers - everything.  Weirdly, it works for two of my three Gmail accounts (within the same browser within a matter of seconds apart), but not in my primary account, i.e., the one I actually *want* it to work in.

Mar. 02, 2010 - 8:52am - 188 days ago

I have never been able to get it to show up...after multiple times of enabling, etc.  But for the first time, I got a java script error:

com.BlankCanvas.GmailSigInstance:

drawToolsAfter()

TypeError: this.parentNode is null

com.BlankCanvas.GmailSigInstance:

insertSignature()

Error: Permission denied for <https://mail.google.com> to get property HTMLDocument.body from <https://nl3atn8402ncgahndqn8rb6qi2ld2g5a-a-gm-opensocial.googleusercontent.com>.

Well, it looks like folks are still having the problem.  I, also am trying to figure out just what might be happening that triggers the icons to "disappear" but have not found a "common" thing yet.

Mar. 09, 2010 - 5:34am - 181 days ago

Signature options disappeared from my and my client's gmail.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted in between - she has no other plugins or addons and is trying to reinstall your latest version without success.

I have:

fireftp 1.07

Forecast Fox 0.9.10.3

Google Gears 0.5.36.0

Sage 1.4.5

Web developer 1.1.6

Firefox: 3.5.8

GMail: ?? - probably latest - it has Buzz - will read your bug report page to find it ....again...

Mar. 09, 2010 - 5:37am - 181 days ago

GMail:

gmail_fe_646_p9

Mac: OS 10.6.2

Help - loved your add-on!
In the GMail help section typing in Blank Canvas shows an alternative - don't want a work around - want this to work as it has for 2 years....

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm using Chrome and having the same problem. The Signature features just aren't showing up. I disabled all labs features and all other extensions. Still broke :(.

May. 06, 2010 - 11:07pm - 122 days ago

I am running into the same problem as others, where there are no errors but the buttons just don't show up at all.  Ever once in a while they show up, but then go away if I restart the browser.  I logged into another account on my machine and the buttons showed up, so it must be something with my account, but I don't know what.

I was wondering if I could help to debug this problem.  Where is the code that determines whether the buttons should be displayed?  I turned on the debugging alerts in Blank Canvas, but I never see anything, so I don't think the scrip is ever running.  But, I can add some new debugging if I knew what file and function is used to determine when to display the buttons.

Thanks,

Matt

Add me to the list of those who have lost BC Gmail sigs functionality. The buttons simply do not show up at all. I have tried all of the fixes suggested here. Uninstalling and reinstalling. Disabling other addons, disabling Google Labs features. None of it matters.

May. 07, 2010 - 7:45am - 122 days ago

OK. Here's a weird fix that seemed to work. I switched to the "old version" gmail option and then switched back to "newer version" and voila, my BC Gmail Sigs was working again. Hmmmm.

May. 08, 2010 - 2:53am - 121 days ago

Same problem to me. No solution yet.

May. 11, 2010 - 6:32am - 118 days ago

The following steps helped me to get Blank Canvas running again in Firefox:

  1. Switching off "Blank Canvas" Add-on
  2. Restart Firefox
  3. Switch "Blank Canvas" on again
  4. Restart Firefox
May. 11, 2010 - 10:37pm - 117 days ago

Ok, I think I figured out what my issue was.  Blank Canvas only works for me "Rich Formatting" mode.  When I switch to "Plain Text" it goes away.  Not sure if I missed that in the instructions, but I don't think so.

Hopefully this is what is the problem for others as well.

May. 20, 2010 - 4:15am - 109 days ago

Signature options do not show up at all the first time I load up Firefox. I have already disabled Google contacts and calendar loading as a default.

Workaround that loads Blank Canvas every time: Tools/Ad-Ons/Disable Blank Canvas, Tools/Ad-Ons/Enable Blank Canvas, Reload page

Google Labs enabled:

  1. Add Gadget By URL
  2. Google Voice Player
  3. Inserting Images
  4. Mark as Read Button
  5. Sender Time Zone
  6. Text Messaging in Chat
  7. Undo Send

Hi,

I'm having the same problem but perhaps this could throw some light on it.

I'm running Chrome 5.0.375.99 and have latest version of BC extension. I don't think the version of Windows etc is an issue as we can see above that many different versions are being used.

All was working fine until I deleted browser history. I've done this before and I know it removes the signature HTML which is why I've got it in a text file to easily cut and paste back in. However, on this occasion the buttons no longer appear. I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted etc but to no avail.

Tried "old version" to no avail.

I installed the Firefox plug-in and it works... but I prefer using gmail in Chrome... ah, is that it?  Could it be going from googlemail to gmail that has caused the issue?

I'm not 100% sure but that could have been the first time I've cleared the cache since changing from @googlemail.com to @gmail.com!

Anyway, I tried it on my other machine and it doesn't work there either!

Best wishes,

Jon

Hi,

I'm also having this problem as of recent.  I have just enabled JavaScript Error and this is what it gave me (I don't know what it means)

Error in com.BlankCanvas.GmailAPI:

Getting this "TypeError: Cannot read property 'default' of undefined" on Chrome on a Mac, have searched everywhere for an answer.

I was using BC fine in Firefox but it doesn't work in Chrome
